How to Create a Custom News Feed
A custom news feed shows only the sources and topics you choose. Here is how to build one on NewsDeskOnline in about five minutes.
Most news apps decide what you see. A custom feed flips that: you choose the publishers, topics and categories, and the feed simply collects the latest headlines from them. You still read every story on the original publisher’s site.
Step 1: Start with built-in sources
Open the home page and click Build my feed. Switch the built-in sources — such as BBC, TechCrunch, CNBC, Wired and CoinDesk — on or off. Your desk updates immediately.
Step 2: Add feeds from the directory
Browse the Feed Directory, which lists more than 100 checked RSS feeds by category. Click Add to my desk on any you want. You can keep up to 20 of your own feeds.
Step 3: Add any RSS feed
Have a favourite blog, newsletter archive or local paper? If it offers RSS, paste its feed link in Feed Sources, give it a name and choose a category.
Step 4: Create your own categories
Categories like World or Technology are built in, but you can create your own — “Formula 1”, “My Town”, “Research” — and assign feeds to them. They appear as filter buttons on your desk.
Step 5: Sign in to save it everywhere
Your choices are saved in your browser automatically. Sign in with Google or email and your desk follows you to every device.
